The thicker walls of Schedule 80 withstand high pressures, and the relative chemical inertness of PVC makes the fittings resistant to industrial acids, bases and many organic liquids. They can be used in residential water applications, but residential pressures are not usually high enough to require Schedule 80.

Schedule 80 PVC S x FPT unions are directional and should be connected with liquid flowing from the nut half of the union body into the MPT-threaded half. They have a maximum service temperature of 140⁰ F.
